It’s Saturday! I’ve heard it said if you don’t try something, you will never know if would have worked. So here goes! Think of the Saturday posts as a weekly review if you want. Some things you might find helpful. Others, maybe not. But I hope to keep those things somewhat interesting as well. On with the show…

PODCAST
I’m a podcast junkie. I spend some time traveling. I like to listen and learn. If you enjoy a good podcast, check this one out. At Orthodocs.Faith, my friend John Harman teams up with his colleague Ron Bentley. Because John is an Old Testament scholar and Ron is a New Testament scholar (hence the Docs), they make a great team. Recently, the conversation was over the book of Ruth. Really solid stuff. Check out their website and the podcast. And let me know if you do!
SUBSTACK
Maybe you’d rather read, right? After all, this is Substack. So what have you found that you really enjoy? Some of you have suggested your favorites. Thanks for that. Let me offer one or two for you to check out as well.
This week, let me suggest John Dobbs at Hope Remains. I think you will enjoy his work. John describes himself as “a Jesus guy” and writes about television and books. He also throws in some great photography.
Now Hear This!
I know some of you like quotes. Me too! So, here’s one for you to “chew on.”
“Burnout is a state of emptiness, to be sure, but it does not result from giving all I have; it merely reveals the nothingness from which I was trying to give in the first place.” - Parker Palmer
Book This One!
Do yourself a favor and take some time to read. I read almost anything - sometimes for work and sometimes just for fun. You might find some treasure here. Regardless, let me know what you’re reading.
I’m reading NT Wright’s The Day the Revolution Began. This is not the first time I’ve read this book. So, you get the idea. It’s a great read. Find it at your favorite bookstore.
I just finished The Wright Brothers by David McCullough. Do yourself a favor and get inspired. I think there’s something about “grit” from that generation.
Here’s my review on Goodreads. Be aware: McCullough is one of my favorites.
Calendar
It’s almost Easter 2024. Although it comes every year (and this year, somewhat earlier than usual), it always seems to “sneak up” on me. I’m excited about gathering with the church and preaching the Good News that should change lives - not just for the day but for eternity. Find a place to worship on Resurrection Sunday! There’s an old adage that says “What you plan today, you will do tomorrow.” So plan!
Goodwill Oklahoma
I had the opportunity this week to hear from Jim Priest. Jim is the CEO of Goodwill - Central Oklahoma. Whereas you might think Chief Executive Officer, Jim deems himself the “Chief Encouragement Officer.” The 501c3 organization began in the early 20th century in Boston and then took roots during The Great Depression in Oklahoma. You read that right! Goodwill in Oklahoma began in 1935. Maybe the Dust Bowl blew them in! Ha. What a unique time to start a non-profit! I wasn’t aware of the history of Goodwill, much less the services they provide other than the well-known stores. Pretty cool!
March Garden
I’m a beginner, when it comes to gardening. No, seriously! B E G I N N E R! Any tips of the trade are quite welcome! Although I took a stab at growing in-ground last year, I’m attempting the above ground beds, this Spring and Summer. Onions ahead!
Something Useless
The average human being spends more time on the toilet than they do exercising.
There ya go - the first installment of Trash or Treasure. Let me know any thoughts.
Love It !!
I liked Trash or Treasure and hope to see it every Saturday! Especially hearty thanks for mentioning my newsletter. Very kind. I have planted my garden - it's not as neat and pretty as yours ... and I hope you'll send us updates along the way. Looks like you did an excellent job! Thanks again!
